Waite High seniors’ cosmic dust collector chosen as NASA finalist

Two seniors from Waite High School, Natalie Diaz Sanchez and Chevy Erwin, were spotlighted at the Toledo City School Board meeting April 22 after their prototype cosmic dust collector was chosen as a NASA finalist.
The students designed, researched and 3D‑printed the device as part of Hunch Club (High Schools United with NASA). Instructor Seth Alder called the selection "a life‑changing" opportunity, and local coverage by Channel 13 (reporter Lily Lowndes) was shown to the board. Board members and the superintendent praised the students’ work at the meeting and wished them luck as they travel to Houston to present the prototype to astronauts.
District leaders described the project as hands‑on STEM education that gives students real‑world design, research and presentation experience. The board encouraged community support and applauded the students and staff for their achievement.
