Planning commission approves vacation of unimproved platted way adjacent to 7466 North Walker Road

The LaPorte County Planning Commission on Aug. 26 approved a petition by property owner Joseph Peter Conlon Jr. to vacate a small, unimproved portion of platted roadway adjacent to his property at 7466 North Walker Road in Hudson Township (parcel 460428, account 40300400050).

Attorney Anthony Novak, representing Conlon, told the commission the strip is a remnant of a 1947 plat and is unimproved, wooded and not part of the active street system. Novak said he had provided several exhibits, including the original plat, and that Building Commissioner Mitch Bishop confirmed there are no planned sewer or infrastructure expansions affecting the area. "It won't disrupt growth or development in the area… No one's gonna be denied access to their property," Novak said while explaining the requested vacation.

Novak said the highlighted section was intended as a short segment of a proposed Grama Street and that vacating the small portion would allow Conlon's parcel to be connected to his property without materially affecting neighboring parcels. Commissioners asked clarifying questions about adjacent East Lindstrom Lane, and Novak confirmed it is a road providing access to nearby property owners.

With no remonstrators present, a commissioner moved a favorable recommendation and after a brief clarification the commission approved the vacation. The commission treated the action as a final decision for a platted roadway vacation; the chair declared the motion carried by voice vote.

Copies of the submitted exhibits and information about accessing a hard copy were made available to the public through the Building Commissioner's Office, and the commission proceeded to its next agenda item.

The commission did not record a roll-call tally for the vacation action; the approval was made by voice vote at the meeting.
