Commissioners table action on courthouse stained‑glass repairs, authorize vendor review

LaPorte County commissioners on Sept. 3 tabled further action on a proposed restoration of stained‑glass windows at the county courthouse and directed follow‑up research and vendor evaluation.
Resident Lee Morris told the board a local preservation group would partner with the county and help fund an initial inventory and evaluation to determine whether windows require restoration and what priorities or costs would be involved. Commissioners said the windows were last redone in 2006 and staff has been trying to locate original contract documents and warranty information.
A representative from Boddy (Bodie/Boddy Studios) offered to conduct a no‑cost evaluation and peer review. Commissioners agreed to table the item until additional documentation is gathered and named Commissioner Steve Hollowield to continue discussions with vendors and review paperwork. The board also authorized the vendor to inspect the windows to provide an evaluation at no charge.
The motion keeps the issue on the board’s radar while staff and the assigned commissioner collect specification, warranty and scope information needed to assess whether county funds or outside contributions are required for long‑term preservation.
