The LaPorte County Community Corrections Board voted on Aug. 18 to allow staff to create an informational-only Facebook page for posting agendas, minutes and JREC (Judicial and Reentry Collaboration) information, board members said.
Miss Garner asked the advisory board for formal permission to proceed, saying the page would be informational and would not allow public comments. Board discussion cited past resistance to social media but emphasized outreach benefits. "If used properly, it can be a very, very powerful tool," Dion Campbell said in support of the page.
The motion to allow the page was seconded and approved by voice vote. Supporters said the page could help change negative public narratives about community corrections, give the public an inside view of operations and boost employee morale.
Why it matters: state and DOC reporting expectations increasingly require accessible public postings. Board members also framed a visible social presence as a way to engage partner agencies and JREC stakeholders ahead of the fall conference in Muncie.
