LaPorte resident says county abandonment of Judson Road has landlocked his property

George White of 155 Garden Street told the LaPorte County Board of Commissioners on Aug. 20 that a recent county action removing signage and abandoning part of Judson Road has effectively landlocked his 3.14-acre property at Legacy Hill Golf Course.
"After a hundred years of county maintenance on the roadway, I'm concerned about the abandonment of that roadway," White said. He told the board the affected stretch runs from Holton Road to the west and supplies two residences and two businesses. He said signage — stop signs and street-name signs — was removed about a week earlier and the road is not scheduled for paving, which he said risks the property's marketability and title clarity.
White described drainage concerns where Holton Road is elevated and Judson Road drops toward his property, saying the old cable-and-drain arrangement that accommodated runoff is no longer a county-maintained item. "Maintaining the drainage in that area is important," he said.
County staff asked White to leave contact information; the board said the county attorney and the highway department had been in dialogue and would follow up. No formal motion or decision to reopen the roadway was made at the meeting.
Next steps: White was asked to provide contact information so county counsel and highway staff could investigate the right-of-way status and whether signage removal reflected an official abandonment action or a temporary work-related change.
