SWCD announces pesticide collection, field days and soil-sampling registration

District staff and program coordinators used the meeting to highlight upcoming public events and outreach opportunities.
Program staff announced a pesticide clean sweep on Aug. 12 at Penny Purdue Farm, saying participants can "bring up to 250 pounds of any kind of pesticide, and it'd be no questions asked," while noting containers alone are not acceptable. The district’s Penny Purdue field day is scheduled for Aug. 20 and will offer PARP and CCA credits and an evening session for those who work during the day.
Staff also noted a UAV program is set for September, and referenced a recent joint field day with Stark County Soil and Water Conservation highlighting tillage versus no-till practices. The district reported ISDA soil-sampling registration will be open Sept. 2 through Oct. 17 and reminded members that the State Soil Conservation Board will meet Sept. 9 in Winamac; interested board members can attend virtually if they cannot travel.
Staff encouraged board members to promote the events and said outreach materials and flyers will be shared via email and social media.
