Board to study caretaker house options; demolition and centralized maintenance discussed

Board members who visited the caretaker house described extensive mold and water damage, concluding the cost of renovation would be prohibitive for renting the structure. During property committee discussion, members considered demolishing the house and building a maintenance barn to centralize equipment, add restrooms and improve storage access for maintenance crews.

Jeremy said the property sits near current maintenance sheds and that converting the site into a centralized maintenance area could allow restroom and utility hookups using existing well and septic connections. He suggested checking with the county highway department to see whether they could assist with demolition and hauling, citing a prior example where the highway department removed an old farmhouse quickly.

The board encouraged Jeremy to explore options and costs, including the potential to raise (demolish) the house, and approved a motion directing staff to investigate. The motion to have staff examine options was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote. No further decisions were made at the meeting about sale or demolition timing, and members noted funding would be required for any work.
