Commissioners approve MS4 fee schedule, limit commercial use of records; payroll and claims passed

At its July 16 meeting the La Porte County Board of Commissioners approved ordinance 2025-2 (MS4 stormwater review fee schedule) and ordinance 2025-3 (restricting commercial use of public records), and voted to approve payroll ($1,509,732.67) and operating expense claims ($2,042,128.39). A library board vacancy was filled (Jamie Novak).
The La Porte County Board of Commissioners approved several fiscal and administrative items at its July 16 meeting.
Ordinances: The board completed the second reading and approved La Porte County ordinance 2025-2, adopting the MS4 stormwater development review fee schedule, by voice vote. The board also approved ordinance 2025-3, which regulates disclosure and commercial use of public records and protects certain lists from disclosure under the Indiana Access to Public Records Act; the board clarified this ordinance targets commercial requests rather than ordinary citizen requests.
Claims and payroll: Commissioners approved payroll for the pay period ending June 27, 2025, in the amount of $1,509,732.67. Operating expense claims totaling $2,042,128.39 were also approved by voice vote.
Appointments: The board considered four applicants to fill a vacancy on the La Porte County Public Library board and selected Jamie Novak by a 2–1 vote. The board also approved a motion directing staff to consult party chairs and the county clerk about filling a Johnson Township Board vacancy (following the resignation of Jerome Kipper) and requested a report back at the next meeting.
Other procedural actions: A motion to adjourn carried by voice vote at the close of the meeting.
