Huntington Woods ' The Huntington Woods City Commission approved a $2,259,223.50 contract with FDM Contracting for the city's 2025 Road and Sewer Replacement Project and asked staff to deliver tree-impact data for the streets scheduled for work.
City staff said the project includes a full road and sewer replacement for Newport (work to begin in May and end in October) and a mill-and-fill resurfacing on Scotia (scheduled July to August). During the discussion, a commissioner requested a report showing how many trees are slated for removal on each affected block and whether any alternatives exist to preserve canopy on specific streets. The city manager said engineering and public-works staff would produce that data and meet with engineers before construction starts.
Commissioners expressed concern about the cumulative loss of mature street trees when infrastructure projects disturb root systems. One commissioner noted the public's aesthetic concerns and asked whether, when tree removal is necessary, replanting plans would be deployed. Staff said the city has an active tree-planting program and will follow replanting practices after needed removals.
The contract was approved by voice vote after commissioners confirmed staff would provide the requested tree-impact information prior to the contractor beginning work. The agenda materials list FDM's diversity information as part of the procurement packet; commissioners said that material could inform the city's vendor policy and anti-racism committee work going forward.
