Board approves bridge contract, insurance amendment and several personnel actions

At the same meeting in which supervisors adopted an EMS resolution, the Hardin County Board of Supervisors approved several routine and capital items, including a bridge contract, an insurance amendment and personnel actions.
The board awarded the contract for County Bridge BR0S‑C042 Sub114‑5F‑42 (L42 H Avenue over South Park) to Peterson Contractors, the winning bidder out of six. A board member described the winning price as "just the shade under $680,000," and said construction is expected to begin next week. Other bidders noted in the record included Boulder Contracting (second), Dixon Construction, Jasper Construction, Culbertson Smith Construction and Taylor Construction.
The board also approved an amendment to the Standard Insurance Company group policy after a motion, and carried the item by voice vote.
On personnel matters the board approved hiring George Van Hove as a correctional officer effective Aug. 21, 2025, at $22.23 per hour; approved a union‑negotiated pay increase for a sheriff's deputy, Jeffrey Brennaman, raising his rate to $39.88 per hour effective Sept. 2; and accepted the resignation of correctional officer Ryan Shannon, effective Aug. 21. Motions on those personnel items were moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
Following routine business and a brief procedural discussion about voting timing on the EMS resolution, the board adjourned.
The bridge contract and personnel changes were recorded on the meeting agenda and the clerk will include the official signed documents in the county record.
