Board adds smaller-class-size and autism-support resolutions to today's agenda; approves agenda and minutes

At the start of its May 13 meeting the State Board of Education considered and approved several procedural motions to shape the day’s agenda.
Dr. Mitchell Robinson moved to add a resolution on smaller class sizes to the agenda; Dr. Pamela Pugh seconded and the chair called a roll-call vote to place the motion; the chair announced, “Motion carries.” Later, Tiffany Tilley moved to add a resolution requesting establishment of policies to register and protect children on the autism spectrum; Dr. Judith Pritchett seconded and a roll-call vote likewise placed that item on the agenda. Tilley described parent concerns about children eloping and asked for nonmandatory registration options so police could tailor interactions.
After those additions, Ellen C. Lipton moved, and Dr. Pritchett seconded, approval of the agenda as amended; a roll-call vote approved it. Near the end of the morning session the board approved minutes of prior meetings and a closed-session confirmation, and then recessed for lunch with public comment scheduled for 1PM.
These items were procedural and placed the resolutions on the docket for later consideration; no substantive deliberation or final votes on the resolutions occurred during the morning session.
