Local nonprofits and volunteers urge council for grants and support during public comment

Jennifer Hall, executive director of NTX Community Food Pantry, said the pantry served nearly 28,000 individuals last year and that costs and rent have risen (rent increased above $50,000), asking council to consider another grant.
Pamela De Santiago of Next Steps the Colony described three core programs (women’s housing, volunteer home repairs and a community Christmas party), cited volunteer metrics (168 volunteers; roughly 672 service hours; $8,450 in materials) and requested assistance toward development of a Colony Resource Center that would centralize referrals and a single phone intake.
Jacqueline Eggert, chair of the Colony Chamber of Commerce, thanked the council for a $30,000 contribution last year and requested the same amount to support staffing and chamber programs. Patty Huestas of CASA of Denton County reported midyear figures (Jan–Jun: 504 children served; 176 volunteer advocates; 10,000 volunteer hours) and asked for continued support. Michelle Doss of Love Packs described feeding about 350 children during school breaks in The Colony and estimated a $52,000 annual cost for the local effort.
Council thanked the speakers and noted the items would be considered through normal grant and budget processes.
