Megan Mitchell, chair of the Bluffdale Arts Advisory Board, presented the board’s 2026 theater season at the July 9 meeting and described a tightened script-approval process the board has used to vet productions for suitability to Bluffdale audiences.
The announced season includes a family musical (SpongeBob SquarePants), park summer shows (Noises Off and a Clue production), a teen summer musical (The Lightning Thief), an autumn production (Pirates of Penzance) and a Christmas show (The 1940s Radio Hour). Mitchell said the board unanimously rejected one recommended spring play as not appropriate for Bluffdale and that the board is adding a kids’ theater workshop and a children’s choir to expand youth participation.
Mayor Hall and council also discussed logistics for the return of the Bluffdale rodeo after a one-year pause. The rodeo committee and volunteers raised more than $44,000 to cover stock, fireworks, volunteer shirts and other costs, Mayor Hall said. The rodeo’s food trucks and band are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m., with a grand entry for the mayor and council at 7:25 p.m. The council noted a new arena will host the rodeo and the committee plans a bull-riding event on Labor Day (Sept. 1); tickets will go on sale the following Monday, the mayor said.
Council members and audience attendees praised the arts volunteers and the rodeo committee. Staff and council asked volunteers and board members to pass on thanks to their teams and said events will be publicized through the city newsletter and other channels.
