Van Buren County meeting approves routine minutes, closes forfeiture account and updates bank signatories

The Van Buren County meeting approved routine business and several financial housekeeping items on its agenda, voting to close a sheriff’s forfeiture account and to update county bank signatories.

Speaker 2 moved to "approve the minutes from the previous meeting," a motion Speaker 1 seconded; the board approved the minutes by voice vote. The board then approved a motion to authorize the sheriff’s office to close a forfeiture account at First Iowa State Bank. Speaker 2 noted that "it's our, forfeiture account" and that "we spent the last of the funds that were in there," and the motion was approved by voice vote.

The board also approved a motion to add "Bethany" as a signatory on two county accounts that handle payroll and accounts payable and to remove retired employee Lori Murgison from the accounts. Speaker 3 said they would present a letter to the bank with the changes and would notify the board if signatures were required; Speaker 2 seconded that motion and the board approved it.

Speaker 3 reported that letters were sent in July to multiple property owners and contract holders about property tax liens on several properties; Speaker 3 moved to proceed with the property tax lien notifications and Speaker 1 seconded. The letter will be given to the treasurer for signature. The board then approved payroll and claims after a motion from Speaker 2 and a second from Speaker 1.
