Trustees spent the early portion of the Nov. 4 meeting hearing student and community recognitions. Seventh‑grade presenters from Mile High Middle School described Exploratory classes (Spanish, peer tutor), Socratic seminars, clubs and athletics; the board praised both students and teachers and presented challenge coins to the presenters.
Lucy Zembick and classmates described the Early Childhood Education (ECE 2) program and their work at Discovery Gardens at Taylor Hicks. Board members asked about logistics including transportation and pathways to further CTE offerings; staff noted connections with Yavapai College programs and the district’s broader CTE portfolio.
The board recognized facilities and grounds staff for keeping aging district buildings operational and handed out challenge coins. Trustees also approved routine consent‑agenda business by voice vote: minutes, donations (including $1,500 from Yavapai Regional Medical Center, $4,000 from Frontier Rotary Charitable Fund and $1,720 from the Abiad Judd PTA), overnight travel requests for athletics, facility oversight terms for a building renewal grant deficiency and several IGAs (including Title I Part D pass‑through with YCESA and membership with GEPMAC). Each motion was seconded and carried by voice vote.
