Lincoln County accepts state aviation grant to upgrade runway and taxiway lighting

Lincoln County commissioners voted to accept a Division of Aviation grant from the North Carolina Department of Transportation to advance runway and taxiway lighting and signage work at the Lincoln County Regional Airport.
County staff said the funds were available after other recipients did not use their allocations and that the award would supplement an ongoing airport improvement project. The presenter described the state funds as roughly $2 million for the allocation and said the project requires a local match of $257,600. "We're gonna upgrade the taxiway lighting and and the runway and everything," the presenter said when asked about the scope.
Commissioner Carpenter moved to accept the grant and the board approved the motion by voice vote. Staff said the county transitioned airport operations to the county on July 1 and has convened with state partners to align engineers and projects following that transition; interviews for an airport manager have concluded.
