City staff said the packet showed two electric vehicles— a 2025 Chevy Equinox listed at $38,000 and a 2025 Ford Lightning pickup quoted in the packet— were secured for a combined purchase price of about $85,000. Because a grant will reimburse up to the grant amount for eligible purchases, city staff reported a net out‑of‑pocket cost of $9,165 for both vehicles after the grant is applied.
Staff said the vehicles will be used by technicians and meter support personnel, will be charged internally in city facilities, and will remain primarily inside city limits for short‑range, high‑turnover use. Council asked questions about life expectancy, charging infrastructure and insurance; insurance representatives said industry practice has not shown higher insurance costs solely because a vehicle is electric, but advised caution about storing electric vehicles indoors because damaged batteries can create hazards.
Council approved the purchase by a 7‑0 vote.
