Those votes came after President Oldham presented institutional data and priorities. He reported an official head count enrollment of 10,701—the largest in 10 years—and a freshmen class of 2,028. The president highlighted a 7‑year enrollment decline that has reversed into a four‑year increase, a first‑year retention rate of 80.1% (the highest in university history), a 16.5 student‑faculty ratio, and several national rankings and return‑on‑investment recognitions. He told trustees the university is pursuing national searches for interim provost and interim vice president for student affairs and plans to elevate successful program concentrations into formal majors as a recruitment strategy.
Trustee discussion during the votes touched on outreach to underrepresented regions of the state, the role athletics plays in expanding brand recognition, and the importance of targeted recruiting in growing yield from farther counties.
The board closed with administrative announcements about Preview Day and a statewide trustees convening at MTSU, and then adjourned.
