Anchorage task force opens public information sessions to reimagine public safety advisory commission

The Task Force to Reimagine the Public Safety Advisory Commission for the Municipality of Anchorage held its first information session to gather perspectives on how a future commission could improve community engagement, oversight and crisis response.
Facilitator Denali of Denali Daniels and Associates said the task force was created last spring and held a discovery phase with a June kickoff and an August community workshop that produced "over 70 submissions." She described a four-meeting series that includes two information sessions and two in-person deliberation sessions in November where members of the public who viewed at least one prior meeting may participate in voting on recommendations.
Cameron Perez Padilla, an Anchorage Assembly member and chair of the Public Health and Safety Committee, said the Assembly’s role is "primarily to develop policy and to allocate funds" and that current…
