Board told of upcoming 'tactical longevity' and active-shooter trainings; staff to circulate schedule

Adam (Speaker 5) described a "tactical longevity" course being developed by area psychologists intended to address long-term physical and mental stress among first responders, saying it aims to provide tools for both new and long-serving employees. "This is going to be the introduction of this program to staff or some staff and newer officers... the end goal is to put new employees through this when they come on to try and give them tools to have a healthier, more productive life," he said.
Adam also described the department's active-shooter training, which is held annually or every other year depending on availability and capacity, often in a closed building and sometimes on the KU campus. He said he would provide dates, times and locations to the board so members could attend.
The board did not vote on training policy or funding during the meeting; staff committed to circulate the schedule and logistical details by email and in the minutes.
