Lawrence staff outlines recruitment timeline for airport general manager; board to participate in finalist interviews

City staff updated the Aviation Advisory Board on recruitment for a full‑time airport general manager. Melissa said the city finalized a contract with Lindsay Dreiling to provide recruitment services and that the posting and hiring timeline has moved later than previously hoped.
"We were hoping to have someone on right at the beginning of the year. It looks like it'll probably be by '26," Melissa said, adding the board will be included in the process: finalists will be introduced in an open‑house setting and at least one or two aviation experts from the board will participate in interviews.
Board members confirmed they want a substantive role in vetting candidates and emphasized transparency and matching candidate skills to airport operations and FAA compliance responsibilities. Melissa said staff will circulate recruitment timelines and candidate materials to the board as they become available.
