Commission hears consultant update; public engagement report posted online

At the Sept. 10 meeting staff updated the Prosper Planning Commission on progress toward the city’s comprehensive plan.

A staff member said the consultant is drafting most plan chapters and has posted a draft public engagement report to the city website under Community Development → Planning and Zoning → Prosper comprehensive plan. "It's about 26 pages," the staff member said. The steering committee is now considering several vision‑statement options provided by the consultant.

Commissioners asked staff to request and circulate the consultant’s PowerPoint materials so the planning commission can coordinate comments and provide additional input to the steering committee. One commissioner praised the consultant’s outreach and said the current process feels more involved than previous cycles.

Commissioners also discussed creating a housing‑stock inventory using parcel data and QGIS to map construction dates and identify older housing stock and potential infill sites. Staff said parcel data and the date‑of‑construction field are available and can be queried; the state real property database updates roughly every three years and can be used to build the map.

Staff also announced a personnel change: a staff member named Bethany is leaving and her last day is set for Oct. 3.

Next steps: staff will attempt to obtain and circulate consultant presentation materials and continue collaboration with the steering committee on the vision statement and plan chapters.
