The council unanimously approved an ordinance allowing the Neosho Rotary Club to place flags in city rights of way on five holidays: Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Labor Day and Veterans Day.
Rotary representatives described the program as restoring a longstanding tradition and expanding it to residential participation. One speaker explained a $50 annual participation fee will fund flag placement on five dates and that proceeds will support Rotary grants and community programs. Rotary volunteers said the PVC housings will be installed at ground level to avoid mowing issues.
Council members and staff said they welcomed the community-minded program; the ordinance passed by voice vote with no opposition.
