The unit also includes a cellular video capability for real-time viewing, and staff said the device is solar-powered and carries no monetary cost to the city under the agreement. The manager described the arrangement as informational and said he intended to sign the agreement; he also said the city would not be committing to ongoing costs or appropriations and could remove the equipment in the future if it became unnecessary.
Councilmembers asked whether the public would have access to the live video; staff said they did not know and had not asked. The manager noted he coordinated the device placement with Newton County Emergency Management and expected similar devices may be deployed elsewhere in the county.
No ordinance or appropriation was required for the informational agreement; staff indicated the partnership could improve local flood monitoring and emergency notification capabilities.
