Resident tells council incomplete tree removal blocked Holt Street and trapped a 77-year-old neighbor

Mexico City — During public comment at the Sept. 22 Mexico City Council meeting, Richard Gold of 1010 East Liberty Street told the council that contractors partially cut down a tree on Holt Street, left it leaning over the roadway and erected barriers that blocked the block and trapped residents.
"They cut down the top of the tree, but left the tree still leaning on the, over the road and the easement," Gold said. He told the council the closure affected about 50 households and said a 77-year-old resident, identified only in the comment as "Freddie," was unable to leave his property and had to drive through a neighbor's yard to get out. Gold called the situation "a serious public safety risk" and "unacceptable."
Gold told the council crews later returned early the next morning with a loader and dump truck and cleared the rubble within roughly three hours. He said he has video of the incident and offered to share it with city officials.
The public meeting transcript does not record a formal staff response to Gold's statement during the public-comment block. The council proceeded with remaining agenda items and later voted to adjourn into an executive session on personnel matters.
Gold's remarks were made during the public-comment portion of the meeting; the council's public record shows no subsequent formal action or directive in the same session related to Holt Street clearance.
