Chamber reports festival successes; council approves $775 lodging-tax allocation and hears transfer-station update

Christian Johnson, representing the chamber (SEG 403), told the council that the Fallen Arts Festival and the Cruises Car Show were successful and that reimbursements remain pending. He requested $775 from the lodging-tax account as a 50% match for a full-page advertising placement targeting October–December events; council approved the allocation by voice vote.
Johnson also announced upcoming ribbon-cutting ceremonies: a behavioral-health building ribbon-cutting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 2, and a Kenneth Ford Public Works solar farm and transfer station ribbon-cutting on Oct. 15 at 9 a.m.; staff said addresses would be emailed to council members.
Public works staff gave a separate update on the transfer station: trucks and equipment are in place, a DNR site inspection is scheduled for next Wednesday, and staff expect to be ready to accept residential trash around Nov. 3. Staff said black-and-gold collection carts will be delivered and pickup will begin in mid-to-late October; the city plans to haul material to the Lemons Landfill in Bloomfield using an 18-wheeler 2–3 times daily.
Council asked questions about reimbursement timing, signage, and landfill hauling logistics; staff indicated further operational details and notifications would be provided ahead of the rollouts and ribbon-cuttings.
