Library board chair asks Spring Hill to commit to a purpose‑built library

During public comment at the Sept. 29 special call, Miss Fitz, chair of the Spring Hill Library Board of Trustees, urged the board to commit to a purpose‑built library that can house programs, serve all ages, and host full two‑week early voting without displacing services.
"It is so much more of a place that's a safe place...It's the living room for this community," Fitz said, recounting the library's 50‑year history in repurposed spaces and civic efforts that initially created library services in Spring Hill. She pressed the board to think about the city's long‑term legacy and concluded, "I'd love to see the shovel in the ground."
Mayor and staff acknowledged the library as among the projects in the 1875/resolution list and in the not‑committed request block. Staff told the board the library's project is on the 1875 list and that project costs and funding sources would be included in the prioritization exercise that will be resolved after aldermen return ranked surveys.
The board did not make a formal funding commitment during the meeting. Staff will include the library among items for ranking and will supply project cost breakdowns and funding scenarios as part of the December return of prioritized projects.
