Assistant Superintendent Nicole Doherty presented the updated high‑school list (last updated in Feb. 2020) and recommended bringing an approved trip list to the board each August so principals and clubs with recurring competitions are pre‑cleared. The committee voted to approve the updated list.
Kelly Williams (principal, McLaughlin Middle) and Mark Williams (8th‑grade teacher) asked to add the Freedom Trail trip back to the middle‑school list, noting curricular alignment with the 8th‑grade U.S. history unit and the value of in‑person experiences. They described plans to fundraise (poinsettia sale, PTO scholarships), the Freedom Trail admission model (no cost for the trail itself), and options to reduce student costs; presenters said transportation costs would be finalized with the transportation office.
Committee members pressed on equity (ensuring students who cannot pay are not excluded), chaperone arrangements and transportation availability. The committee moved and approved the McLaughlin trip after discussion and thanks to presenters.
