The Los Gatos‑Saratoga Union High School District board voted to approve a proposal to contract with Knowledge Saves Lives to perform a comprehensive site risk safety assessment at Los Gatos High School, Saratoga High School and the district office.
Superintendent Heath said the assessment will identify potential safety and security gaps — from access points and lighting to cameras and visitor systems — and provide practical, cost‑effective recommendations the district can incorporate into the facility master plan. “To me, safety is all of our number 1 priority,” Heath said while presenting the proposal.
Staff emphasized the assessment is intended to complement, not replace, the facilities master plan and listed prior partnership work with the vendor that included lockdown drills and preparedness programs. The board approved the contract on a motion, with student preferential votes recorded prior to the board vote.
Staff said findings will be used in the FMP process and that proposed measures will prioritize funneling visitors to supervised access points and other non‑invasive safety improvements rather than major perimeter fencing.
The approved work will begin during the FMP process and will be budgeted and coordinated through the district’s facilities team.
