Board members spent substantial time on calendar and future topics. S6 proposed that at the Jan. 6 organizational meeting the board set tentative meeting dates for January and February 2025 (and tentatively note early 2026 dates) so the district calendar can reflect public meetings and aid community planning.
Discussion included whether to print tentative dates on school calendars, how to handle holiday conflicts when a third Monday falls on a holiday (move before or after), and the district's standard practice of listing regular board meetings as the third Monday at 06:30 with occasional changes. S7 and others said tentative posting helps parents plan even if final approval is at the reorganization meeting.
Separately, S5 proposed piloting an intergovernmental community partners forum that would bring together superintendents, board members and city/county officials two to three times in 2025 to share subject‑specific updates; the board generally supported exploring the idea and agreed to include townships and multiple municipal jurisdictions in outreach.
On security, multiple members recommended more frequent closed‑session briefings with local police on school security — moving from once a year to twice a year (May and a possible February check‑in) so any identified issues can be addressed over the summer. S3 suggested coordinating with the chief on the best timing for those updates.
Next steps: staff will present a tentative calendar for Jan.–Feb. and propose a plan for the intergovernmental pilot and school security cadence for board approval at upcoming meetings.
