The Carson City School District Board of Trustees voted on Sept. 23 to adopt the district’s annual restorative discipline plan, a requirement under Nevada law (NRS 392.4644). Christy Perkins, who presented the plan, said the document aligns district procedures with a Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), emphasizes restorative practices and specifies documentation, investigation timelines and required site review teams.
Perkins told trustees that when a student is suspended three or more days the district must write a restorative plan and that the plan is intended to add layers of support rather than rely on punitive “contracts.” The plan includes tiered interventions (Tier 1 universal supports, Tier 2 targeted interventions, Tier 3 individualized plans), guidance on documenting behavior in Infinite Campus, and protocols for bullying and SafeVoice reports. Perkins said the district had 75 staff members involved in the plan review this year and noted that some sites included parent and student reviewers.
Trustee Walker moved to accept the restorative discipline plan; Trustee Varner seconded. With no public comment, the board voted in favor and the motion carried. Perkins said the approved plan will be posted on the district and school websites and distributed to the community as required.
The board’s action was a formal adoption of an annually required plan; trustees did not add amendments at the meeting.
