Residents accuse district leaders of fiscal mismanagement and question campaign materials; board says flyer was produced by a political group

During public comment at the Sept. 8 Stow-Munroe Falls City School District Board of Education meeting, multiple residents raised allegations about district financial oversight and the circulation of politically charged campaign materials.
An unidentified commenter said they 'were accosted by the president of the board and her minions' while distributing flyers at a city event and alleged the district had added fees for K–8, mishandled credit-card charges (including DoorDash items), and spent large sums on a new field house. The commenter said a district treasurer had 'let it slip' that $1,800,000 from the general fund was spent on the field house and asserted a compiled spreadsheet showed over $6,000,000 to a contractor and more than $9,000,000 total. These figures were presented as allegations by the commenter and were not confirmed by district staff during the meeting.
Scott Simpkins, who identified himself in public comment, said the flyer he distributed was compiled from '15 months of credit card statements and 2 years of check registers' and argued that much of the money cited pertained to administration rather than teachers. He said his review suggested waste and legal problems stemming from prior compliance issues. "The financial irresponsible flyer ... contained information retrieved from 15 months of credit card statements and 2 years of check registers," Simpkins said.
Amy Messmore Jones thanked the board and asked for citations and sources for assertions made during public comment. Rachel Jamieson, identifying herself as an alumnus, said a document shared on social media by 'a member of the board' contained extreme rhetoric and conspiracy theories, disparaged teachers' unions and programs, criticized mental-health resources, and promoted privatization; she called such circulation by a sitting board member 'troubling.'
In response to questions about a flyer labeled with the district name, the chair noted the physical flyer is marked at the bottom as paid for by 'SMF Dems Club' and said that campaign materials produced by political organizations are not board business. A board member (Sheehan) pressed the point, calling it an identity misuse concern; the chair said if the matter could not be connected to board business they would move on.
No formal board action on the spending allegations or the political flyers was taken during the meeting. Board members and the superintendent asked for supporting documentation when allegations were raised and directed that any item intended as board business be submitted according to the agenda process.
