District facilities staff provided an update on ongoing construction and abatement work and the board approved a related change order.
Nevin Coppock reported crews are removing windows because the glazing contains asbestos and that the kindergarten wing has been abated. He said demolition of portions of the facility is anticipated to begin Monday, July 7, and that the bus garage work includes preparing a pad and access road; staff anticipated the pad might be asphalted before school starts and the bus garage building to be erected in late September or October with operations moving to the new facility in December.
Separately, the board approved a revised project proposal (a change order) that incorporates north parking lot work as part of the bus garage contract; staff explained the work is being done now to solve logistics for next school year and will be credited to the PKA/LEHI project later through OFCC processes. The board discussed cost increases and timing and staff explained the approach was recommended after OFCC could not process the funding switch in time.
What happens next: abatement and demolition will continue on the stated schedule; staff will coordinate phasing and OFCC crediting for the added parking lot work.
