Alexandria council approves Landmark Overlook permit extension over one dissent

The motion to approve the extension was made by Councilman Chapman and seconded by Councilwoman Green; Councilman Aguirre announced he opposed the project and voted no. The clerk recorded ayes from Chapman, Green, Mayor Gaskins, Vice Mayor Bagley, Councilman El Newby and Councilman McPike and a nay from Aguirre.
The permits were brought forward with a Planning Commission recommendation to approve, recorded in the meeting materials as a 7'to'0 vote. Council discussion on the dais was brief; Chapman moved approval and Aguirre restated his prior objections dating to February 2022, saying he remained consistently opposed to the project.
The decision extends the city's previous approvals and will allow the applicant to continue with the project under the terms discussed in staff materials and the Planning Commission report. Council did not amend the proposal on the floor.
