School board approves two-year support-staff contract with raises, higher health contribution

The District 196 school board voted Sept. 15 to approve a tentative two-year collective-bargaining agreement between the district and the Support Staff Association covering custodial, grounds, maintenance and warehouse employees.
Joel Miltier, the district—s director of human resources, said the contract covers the period July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2027 and that members of the bargaining unit ratified the agreement on Sept. 13, 2025.
Miltier summarized the main terms: a 2% salary increase in each year of the two-year contract; a 2.5% increase each year to differential and certification stipends; a 2.5% increase each year to the longevity-pay schedule; a 14% increase to the district contribution to health insurance in year 1 and an 8.55% increase in year 2; and a $200 increase to the district match for 403(b) in each year. He also described language updates to align leaves, vacations and other policies with law.
The board moved to approve the agreement (motion by Robin, second by Leah). Chair Johnson called for the vote and the motion "carried on a 7 0 vote," recorded in the transcript.
The approval completes the board-level step for the tentative agreement; staff said the agreement reflects parameters previously approved by the board and was ratified by the bargaining unit.
