The Poquoson City Council held a public hearing and voted unanimously to adopt an ordinance renewing a cable franchise with Cox Communications Hampton Roads LLC for a 10‑year term. City staff outlined that cable franchises in Poquoson are nonexclusive and that the renewal updates public-service obligations; a packet appendix will be corrected to fix a building identification error (Appendix A mistakenly identified the Public Works Building as the Public Safety Building).
Staff noted that after a 2007 state change to franchise fee remittance the city receives approximately $20,000 per month in combined remitted funds, although the state does not break the amount down by provider. Barrett Stork of Cox attended and told the council the company appreciated the opportunity to continue service and would work with the city on ongoing network buildout and customer service.
The council approved the ordinance by voice/roll-call and recorded a final vote of 7–0.
