District 196 officials told the school board Sept. 15 that summer programs served about 67,000 meals across June, July and August and offered targeted academic and enrichment opportunities to thousands of students.
Director of elementary education Jeremy Sorensen said the district served 50,598 meals in June alone and about 67,000 total meals for the summer, an increase of roughly 4,000 meals from the previous year. He said neighborhood partnerships with Open Door helped deliver about 3,000 meals to families unable to travel to program sites.
