Rice County approves transfer of Henry M. Rice Square parcel to HRA for redevelopment

Rice Square when the plat is recorded" to the Rice County Housing and Redevelopment Authority for redevelopment purposes. Sarah said, "so right now this is just the action that would transfer it from county up county ownership to HRA ownership for the purposes to do those activities on that land." Commissioner Malika moved to approve the resolution; Commissioner Peters seconded. The board approved the measure by voice vote and the chair declared the motion carried.
Sarah told commissioners that the HRA will schedule a public hearing at its next meeting on use of the land and a future sale to a developer, meaning no sale or site-specific approvals will occur as part of the county vote. The transfer authorizes the HRA to begin that local redevelopment process.
The board took no other substantive action on redevelopment details (zoning, developer selection, or sale price) during the meeting. The HRA public hearing will be the next formal opportunity for public input and for officials to consider specific proposals.
The board adjourned and staff prepared to convene the HRA meeting where the public hearing will be held.
