Commissioners discuss active-transportation funding and steep cuts to dislocated-worker grants

The group discussed whether local applicants should provide a match, with options mentioned ranging from no match to a smaller local match of 5–10 percent, and recommended splitting funds between construction and planning dollars to make awards accessible to smaller communities.
Separately, Commissioner Miller reported that Ramsey County is facing a 46 percent funding reduction in the state dislocated-worker program for FY26 and that federal WIOA funding has declined by about 10 percent annually over the past five years. Miller said local boards and workforce partners will coordinate to press for increased funding at the Minnesota Job Skills Partnership meeting in October and through the governor's workforce task force.
