County staff presented the preliminary 2026 budget and a proposed levy of $29,000,001.88, which county staff said represents a 5.74% increase over last year. Staff and commissioners discussed funding sources, the possibility of reducing the levy before certification, and remaining uncertainties driven by state decisions and insurance costs.
County staff explained the preliminary levy is being set now to allow time for continued review and to meet statutory timelines; commissioners noted the number remains a ‘‘moving target’’ and promised further review at subsequent meetings leading up to final certification. The board adopted the preliminary budget and levy by motion and set a public Truth‑in‑Taxation meeting for Dec. 4, 2025 at 6:00 PM at the government center to receive public comment on the budget and levy.
The board also approved preliminary Lake Improvement District assessments that must be certified in time for tax statements. Commissioners and staff emphasized that the adopted figure is preliminary and that subsequent adjustments are possible before the certified levy.
