Franklin County commissioners condemn racist disruption to meeting; prosecutor to file complaint

County prosecutor Shayla Favor told the board she would file a complaint with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and said the prosecutor’s office would not hesitate to prosecute “any behavior that seeks to violate the law and undermine the business of Franklin County.”
Commissioners emphasized that public meeting laws continue to apply and that the board’s doors remained open for in‑person testimony. They asked law enforcement and the prosecutor’s office to investigate and determine whether prosecution is warranted.
The board’s statement said the disruption “undermines the integrity of our governance” and affirmed a commitment to inclusive, respectful public discourse while continuing the business of the county.
The meeting proceeded after the board closed the online feed. The sheriff’s office was identified as the agency to receive the complaint and to investigate the incident; the prosecutor indicated charging decisions would follow any investigation.
