Franklin County recognizes National Agriculture Week; Farm Bureau showcases local products and youth programs

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners on March 18 welcomed representatives of the Franklin County Farm Bureau as part of a recognition of National Agriculture Week.
Melinda Lee Patterson, identified as organization director for the Farm Bureau, thanked the commissioners for the recognition and described how agriculture in Franklin County extends beyond traditional farms to urban producers and value-added products. Board member Sue Skorupski and Vice President Lauren Prettyman Brown noted local products—popcorn, goat milk soap, pastas and jellies—would be presented to commissioners and emphasized youth programs designed to connect children with agriculture.
Speakers said many products in the gift baskets were produced or processed in Franklin County, and Patterson invited attendees to consider Farm Bureau membership via the organization’s website. Commissioners and staff agreed to take a commemorative photo and to adopt a resolution recognizing National Agriculture Week.
The Farm Bureau’s remarks stressed the breadth of agriculture’s local economic and educational roles and encouraged resident participation in county agricultural programs and volunteer opportunities.
