Franklin County commissioners mark Black History Month, invite residents to 'Thrive Together' resource fair

Commissioners opened their Feb. 11 session by marking Black History Month and recognizing members of the historic Black Greek-letter organizations known collectively as the Divine 9. President Crowley highlighted the organizations’ history of service and civic engagement and invited any Divine 9 members in the audience to stand and be recognized. Commissioner Boyse, Commissioner Wilson and others described the organizations’ roles in mentoring, community service and civil rights history and related personal experiences.
The board also promoted a county event, the “Thrive Together” celebration scheduled for Feb. 12, 2025, at the Harmony Project, 4411 Tamarack Boulevard in Columbus; County Administrator Ken Wilson and President Crowley are listed to speak. The event will include cultural performances, community storytelling and resources intended to support local businesses and residents.
The remarks were ceremonial; no formal policy changes or votes were attached to the commemoration. The commissioners emphasized outreach, mentorship and the role of historically Black organizations in civic life.
