Franklin County recognizes Central Ohio winter state champions at commissioners meeting

The Franklin County Board of Commissioners honored student‑athletes from more than a dozen Central Ohio high schools for winter state championships, inviting coaches and seniors to the podium to share season highlights and college plans.
At its April 22, 2025 meeting the Franklin County Board of Commissioners paused business to recognize winter state champions from Central Ohio. The county partnered with the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and the Ohio High School Athletic Association to honor athletes across multiple sports, including boys basketball, girls and boys swimming and diving, and boys and girls wrestling.
Linda Logan, executive director of the Greater Columbus Sports Commission, welcomed the assembled athletes and coaches and congratulated the region’s representatives, noting roughly 13 high schools were present. Coaches introduced teams and senior athletes gave short remarks about their seasons and future plans.
Westerville North’s head coach Shan Trusley described an undefeated league season (12–0) and a Division II state championship run. Senior Nolan Fedak said he plans to play at a university next year; other athletes described team chemistry and the role of family support.
Saint Charles Prep representatives recounted winning a Division I title by a narrow margin and called out relay and individual winners; Grandview Heights coach Susan Ferguson introduced Carrie Furby, a five‑time state champion who said she will swim and study at The Ohio State University next year. Coaches and students from Bishop Watterson, Gahanna, Olentangy Orange, Pickerington Central and others also spoke briefly about the work and commitment behind their seasons.
County commissioners offered congratulations and invited teams to stay for a photo. The recognition concluded and the meeting proceeded to the public business agenda.
