Board authorizes $3.87 million in grants to nonprofits serving older adults

Lorice Collins, chief financial officer for the Office on Aging, described how the awards align to five social-determinant domains and provided the funding breakdown: economic stability ($730,865, nine projects); social and community connections ($1,285,026, 15 projects); education and access ($34,102, one project); health care and access ($1,422,759, 14 projects); and neighborhood and built environment ($395,065, six projects).
Deputy county administrator Joy Bivens raised concerns about potential federal funding cuts to social services block grants and warned such reductions could affect Meals on Wheels and food banks. Commissioners asked staff to monitor federal policy impacts as they consider next year’s budget.
Commissioners moved and unanimously adopted the authorization. The Office on Aging said awards support the Rise Together blueprint and will fund projects intended to help seniors remain independent and healthy in the community.
