Commission schedules special sessions and open house for Bear East plan update

The Planning & Zoning Commission received an update on the Bear East Comprehensive Plan on Sept. 2 and agreed to a schedule for consultant presentations and public outreach. Staff said the consultant has completed existing-conditions analysis and stakeholder meetings and will present draft recommendations at a special work session on Sept. 29, followed by a public open house (tentatively Oct. 29).
Commissioners requested additional background materials and narrative explanations to accompany technical studies such as parking and traffic analyses so members and the public can interpret findings. Staff said a city-hired traffic consultant completed counts and that further traffic and parking analyses will be provided; the city will reimburse consultant fees as appropriate. Commissioners emphasized the importance of clear materials for public review and asked staff to compare proposed parking ratios to similar projects.
Staff and the consultant will refine recommendations, public outreach materials and schedule and return to the commission for review before broader public release. The commission agreed to the proposed schedule and asked staff to circulate materials in advance to support substantive feedback at the special sessions.
