Library readies LibCon, outreach and explores book vending at new city hall

Library staff and board members discussed upcoming events and outreach plans and explored the possibility of a book vending kiosk at the new city hall.
Jennifer said the five'year plan is complete and will return to the board for final approval in October, and that marketing efforts have prioritized LibCon, sponsorships and a cosplay contest. "She's busy finalizing and organizing sponsors for the cosplay contest, creating social media posts, and finding new forms of advertising this event to our community and beyond," Jennifer reported about the marketing lead, Tiara.
On staffing and programming, Jennifer said the new youth librarian, Hannah Durham, started last week and that the library will return to regular programming in September; she described outreach to assisted living centers and a homebound delivery service run through the Friends of the Library.
Unidentified Speaker 2 asked whether the city planned a book kiosk at the new city hall and whether the library would use it. Jennifer said she had provided the city with vendor contacts for a book vending supplier and study pods and that the system could accommodate vending machines as branches. "Our current book locker is just a reserve locker, but we do have the capability with this system to do, like, a book vending," she said, and agreed to bring more information back to the board.
Board members encouraged attendance at LibCon (Sept. 27) and discussed volunteering; the Friends plan to staff a table selling manga, comics and graphic novels. Marketing may not have a street banner in time because of vendor issues, Jennifer said, and an updated event image will be presented in October if needed.
The board did not adopt any formal policy about the book kiosk during the meeting; Jennifer will follow up with the city and report back.
