Friends group reports record book'sale results, moves forward on naming library'wing

Aaron Millis, president of the Friends of the Pflugerville Library, told the board the Friends are financially strong following a series of successful book sales and growing volunteer participation.
"Financially, the Friends continue to look strong with both increased memberships and increased income from the book sale and fundraising events," Millis said, adding that one sale attracted 45 new members and that volunteers and some city staff have helped with setups and checkout.
Millis said the Friends are moving forward with naming the library's original wing for Audrey T. Dearing and are "currently in the wait period as the lettering and plaque are manufactured." He said the Friends expect an installation date this fall that will minimize disruption to library services.
He also announced the Friends will host a special LibCon table on Sept. 27 for manga, comics and graphic novels, and that the final book sale of the year is scheduled for Nov. 6. Millis noted a recent Friends volunteer project assembling 100 bags of board books for fall library programs and reminded members that officer elections and the appointment of a nominating committee will occur at the Sept. 16 Friends meeting.
When the board discussed potential sponsorships for a mascot outfit, Millis said the Friends could explore costs and report back.
The board did not take a formal vote related to the Friends report during the meeting.
