The Creve Coeur Planning and Zoning Commission approved a minor site plan and recommended a 60‑day temporary use permit on April 21 for two 20-by-20 pole tents to be placed on the northeast corner of the property at 11645 Ladue Road to provide shade for summer camp activities.
Craig Newman, who identified himself as executive director of the congregation at the address, said the property is just over 20 acres and hosts preschool and summer-camp programs. Newman said the tents were used last summer under a variance and performed well in severe storms: "They were unscathed by the damage," he said, and added the tents' posts are anchored at each pole.
Newman requested a 60‑day allowance; the zoning ordinance allows temporary tents for 45 days, so the request added 15 days. Staff confirmed there were no complaints about last year’s installation and noted that temporary use permits beyond 45 days are approved by the Planning and Zoning Commission and that the applicant must still apply for a staff-level temporary use permit as a condition of approval.
A motion to approve the site plan and permit (application 25-008) for the two 20-by-20 tents for 60 days passed by voice vote with a condition requiring the applicant to apply for staff approval of the temporary use permit.
Next steps: applicant to file the temporary use permit for staff review and comply with any standard safety and anchoring requirements inspected or confirmed by city staff.
