The Kirkwood City Council voted Sept. 18 to accept a single-source proposal from ZOLL Medical Corporation for $399,602.48 to purchase seven ZOLL X Series cardiac monitors for the fire department.
The medical director, speaking in support of the procurement, described the monitors as a proven product the department has used for about 10 years and said the new units include features that aid field treatment, including traumatic brain injury support, tools to evaluate STEMIs in the field, and improved ventilation monitoring. "It is a premier product on the market," the medical director said.
Staff told council the purchase is budgeted from a capital account that has available funds (the packet cited roughly $400,000 in that account) and that a $60,000 credit is included for trade-in of six older monitors. Council members asked whether every apparatus would have a monitor (staff confirmed the purchase would allow a monitor on each apparatus and remove the need to 'jump' one monitor between engine houses).
After discussion the council approved the resolution authorizing the procurement and directed staff to issue a purchase order.
